Thank you all for joining us for Miles for Marnie as a financial sponsor, with an in-kind donation and/or participating in the race. We appreciate your support of our event and our efforts to raise money for childhood cancer research. The 2013 Miles for Marnie race raised $24,568. We will be donating this to Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation to be used for research.
The weather cooperated and we had a great race and a great day. We had 245 runners in the 5K and 28 participants for the Fun Run.
A special thank you to Davidson Elementary School and Principal Dana Jarrett for allowing us to host Miles for Marnie at the school.
Marnie kicked off the race this year differently than previous years. Participants and volunteers lined both sides of the street and cheered and high-fived Marnie as she ran through the crowd. As Marnie ran, the Rascal Flatts song "My Wish" played over the sound system. The song sums up all we feel for Marnie and all children and why we host this event.
The song says:
"And if one door opens to another door closed
I hope you keep on walkin' til you find the window
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile
But more than anything, more than anything
My Wish for you
Is that this life becomes all that your want it to
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you're out there gettin' where you're gettin' to
I hope you know somebody loves you
And wants the same things too
Yeah, this is my wish"
Marnie inspires us to be better people. All children and families facing a cancer diagnosis deserve a fighting chance to beat this disease. New treatments provide hope to patients and research will help reach the day when a cure is found. So thank you for helping us pursue our wish that all children with cancer are cured and allow them to pursue their big dreams in life.

Childhood Cancer Children
We honored 6 childhood cancer survivors and 1 child still in treatment at the race. We celebrated with confetti cannons and the kids were dancing in the street.
We also honored the memory of 4 local children that have passed away due to childhood cancer. There were very few dry eyes during this part of the event.
We placed 18 posters with childhood cancer kid pictures along the greenway at the end of the course to inspire our runners to race hard to the finish.
3 Years Cancer Free
Marnie received a report on Friday that 3 years off treatment scans show No Evidence of Disease. Yay for Marnie.
2014 Miles for Marnie
We'll be back in 2014 with another Miles for Marnie. We hope you will again participate and sponsor our race.
All the best,
The Howiler Family, Marnie Jude Foundation Board Members & Miles for Marnie Planning Committee
